Wadjet: Dance of a Snake Goddess
Size: 20 x 16 inches
Medium: Acrylic Paint on canvas
April 2019
When I began this painting at the event YULE, in Largo, FL, there was nothing more than a sketch in my hand and a blank canvas. I had this image in my head, of a three-eyed bird, swirls of colors, fuzzy at this stage.
The journey of this painting was such a pleasure for me. After many hours spent pouring over her, the goddess started to form, and I felt compelled to add the hamsa of my creation at the top. As well as the moon cycles through your infinite mouth. Each new addition pulled her closer to completion.
In February 2019, Brainquility Music and Arts Festival invited Joy Smiles Art to live paint at the festival. With a bit of inspiration from Suwannee Music Park, I made some great progress on her.
That February I took a trip, and while on this trip, I had a vision of my painting. A blue woman appeared in the hamsa, and she started dancing as she danced she became the blue snake you see at the edges of the three prominent eyes.
After this, I knew I had to include this snake energy. After doing a bit of research on names that are associated with being a snake goddess. Wadjet is Egyptian for snake Goddess.
As she blossomed into the finished piece, Wadjet traveled to many local shows and festivals. Her completion came to me at home on a lovely day in April 2019.
The goddess Wadjet appears in the form of the living Uraeus to anoint your head with her flames. She rises up on the left side of your head and she shines from the right side of your temples without speech; she rises up on your head during each and every hour of the day, even as she does for her father Ra, and through her the terror which you inspire in the spirits is increased ... she will never leave you, are of you strikes into the souls which are made perfect.

Many layers and meaningful symbolism to me, from the Scorpio Constellation to the moon phases and the blue snake from a dream I had. - Joy Smiles
Violet Sight
Size: 20 x 16 inches
Medium: Acrylic Paint on canvas
January 2022
Violet Sight is a flow in purples. Started this one off with just a flow, for myself flow consists usually of a fresh white canvas and a mixture of colors or shades blasting music with a vibration I’d like to communicate onto the canvas. This is the result of what I refer to as a “Flow of Creativity” piece.
Purple has always been one of my favorite colors. Purple and blues were a natural choice for me then to paint on this day. I started with just purple shapes, adding the eyes and then flowing off of the shapes I’ve created by letting my freeness inspire this end result.
Violet Sight, the eyes are always watching and communicating with the world with no words.
Nature in our DNA
Size: 10 x 20 inches
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
Completed: June 2020
The inspiration behind my painting: Nature in our DNA
"Man is as much attached to nature as a tree, and though he walks freely on two legs and is not rooted in the soil, he is by no means a self-sufficient, self-moving, and self-directing entity. For his life he depends absolutely on the same factors as the tree, the worm, and the fly, on the universal powers of nature, life, God, or whatever it may be. From some mysterious source, life flows through him unceasingly; it does not just go in at birth and come out at death—he is the channel for an ever moving stream, a stream that carries the blood through his veins, that moves his lungs and brings him air to breathe, that raises his food from the earth and bears the light of the sun to his face."
~Alan Watts
Focus falls onto the double helix DNA strands. All seven main energy centers are also known as the main Chakras.
Sacred Sexuality Symbol. to represent the divine feminine and the divine masculine.
The Om symbol represents the sound of the universe.
We are one! Feel Gaia embrace you! I sure do. Every walk in the grass, each flower we smell, nature is with us and all around us.
The pandemic affected so many of us in ways we may never know, I like to look out into the world, especially into the trees, the water, and anywhere that is outside and near green. I think so many of us spent time in our backyards and hiking than we had. Live out loud!
