Once upon a time…
Joy Michelle Smiles here! Sweet Trippy Hippie Southern Belle! Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Moved to Florida for five years and found myself and my art. Moved back home in 2020 to be inspired by the hills, mountains, and valleys of my youth.
JoySmilesArt also known as Art of Joy Smiles and Joy Found Here, was born in fall 2017. One night, I picked up my paintbrush and never turned back. The passion that had become ashes now turned into the fire I have today!
I come from an artistic family. My mother is a muralist and graphic designer. Joy, the middle of five children trying to find my voice in this life. All five of us are artistic and musical. When one comes from such a creative family it’s easy not to know what to do with your art.
In 2017 I was offered to live paint at a local EDM festival/Show, YULE. After this show, I had the fire to continue creating in front of others.
After doing countless local shows in the St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL areas, I was asked to paint at my first music and arts festival, Brainquility 2018. This experience only kindled this burning desire to share my art and joy even more!
With my paints, canvas, and easel in hand, I carried these over the last 6 years from event to event. Over the festival season 2018 and 2019, you may have seen me out there live painting! From Dover, Delaware for Firefly Music Festival, Pennsylvania for Camp Bisco, and Peach Fest. To Imagine Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Joy Smiles has been out there showing the world what I love! What I dream becomes real! In 2022 and 2023 I was asked to paint at the first two years of Sol Fest Music and Art Festival. Painted my first two real murals.
Where it began to become a passion. In 2017 I was introduced into the universe of psychedelics, finding my passion, myself and my art is where my story really begins. The visions I've had I will continue to try to paint them outside of my head. I have been touched and look forward to translating my magical dreams and soul adventures for all to see! We are all connected! I hope you find yourself connecting to the wiggles on my canvas.
